Green Operating System?

“The system (Windows Vista) that has been blamed, it seems, for everything from global warming to the U.S. economic meltdown.” PCWorld

Is there any connection between OS and global warming? Ooo...may be with the software to calculate the impact of desktop/laptop PC to our world. But must people use Mac OS X Leopard rather then Windows Vista. Is there any analysis from the Greenpeace which OS is friendlier to environment?

I am an Energy [R]evolutionary

The Greenpeace are sending a message to the world leaders who will be meeting at the G8 Summit in Tōyako, Japan. If you agree the statement below from the Greenpeace website, please sign it, and ask that the leaders of Germany, Japan, the US, Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Russia, and the UK join YOU by becoming Energy [R]evolutionaries.

I’m asking world leaders to deliver an Energy Revolution to save the climate. I'm asking for...

- A global treaty that cuts greenhouse gas emissions by more than half by 2050

- Renewable Energy supplying more than half the world's power by 2050

- Laws that dramatically improve global energy efficiency, from light-bulbs to automobiles

- Powering the world with as little coal as possible and no nuclear power

- An end to climate-endangering deforestation

Toshiba Laptop and our small world

Getting interesting that there is a small fact that our gadget can give bad impact to our environments. First, this blog talk about the toxic video game console and recently about the new 3G iPhone. And now , based on information from green peace website that Toshiba has laptops free of toxic chemicals like vinyl plastic (PVC) and has reduced the use of brominated flame retardants (BFRs). Apple's score improves slightly due to new iMacs reducing the use of PVC and BFRs..

Is the new 3G iPhone toxic ?

Apple just launches the new 3G iPhone. For some reason to cut the price Apple make some change design. The new 3GiPhone now use using plastic instead of metal on the new iPhone's case. Is the 3G iPhone case can make bad impact to our environment just like the game console like The toxic PS3, Wii, and Xbox ? Below is small peace information about Apple product from Greenpeace website

“Scientific tests, arranged by Greenpeace, reveal that Apple's iPhone contains hazardous chemicals. The tests uncovered two types of hazardous substances, some of which have already been eliminated by other mobile phone makers. An independent scientific laboratory tested 18 internal and external components of the iPhone and confirmed the presence of brominated compounds in half the samples, including in the phone's antenna, in which they made up 10 percent of the total weight of the flexible circuit board. A mixture of toxic phthalates was found to make up 1.5 percent of the plastic (PVC) coating of the headphone cables.”

Why hybird Cars

The reason is simple. Despite the high efficiency of gasoline, the fuel made pollution to environment and fuel price is getting more expensive each day. Hybrid cars run on electric motor battery that can be recharged. In addition, hybrid cars can control pollution to minimize the global warming impact. Hmmm, this gets interesting. The next issue is to find information about the total cost to product hybrid cars

The toxic PS3, Wii, and Xbox

PS3, Wii, and Xbox contained high bromine in their circuit boards and plastic casings. Brominated flame retardants are not easily break up in the environment. Long-term exposure can lead to a deterioration of learning and memory functions. Bromine can also interfere with the thyroid and hormone estrogen and exposure in the womb can couse behavior problems.

Components of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 also a high level of phthalates, one of which - DEHP - is known to deal with sexual development in mammals: including the people and especially men.
